Meet the Aveiro team members

Joana Alegrete, DVM

Clinical Director, Veterinarian

Graduated in UTAD in 1996, and did her curricular internship in the ARS Veterinarian Hospital in Barcelona and has since began her practice in 1997.

She finished her degree in surgery and anaesthesia by UAB during 2004-2007, The Orthopedics Association course in Madrid in June of 2008 and the surgery course Surgery I, II and III From ESAVS, in Vienna Austria in 2009.  She also did the UAB’s Surgery and Anesthesia course in the same year has her AO course. In 2019 she did the Neurosurgery course from Vetability
She since has also done post graduate degree in management in Catalica’s University in Lisbon from 2009-2010, Odonthology in São Paulo’s University in 2011 and did a Master’s degree in orthopedics and traumatology in 2015 in Madrids Complutense University

She has a deep interest in surgery, anaesthesia and neurology.
In her free time she likes to exercise and to sail. She has 2 cats Ana and Sofia

Rafael

Rafael Guerra, DVM

Veterinarian

Finished his master’s degree in Veterinary Medicine in Vasco da Gama University in 2017. He did his curricular intership between Aveiro’s Veterinarian Hospital and the Rowe Refferals Eye Clinic in Bristol, United Kingdom. In this last one was where he collected the informations for his graduate’s thesis with the title “Cataracts in Labrador Retriever and Jack Russel Terrier from the United Kingdom: A two-year retrospective study” which was published in 2018.

He finished the Ecography level I course by Improve international in 2017 and in 2018 started the Theoretical and Practical anaesthesia and a analgesia in small animals and the Theoretical and Practical surgery Basics  courses in smalls animals in the UAB
In 2019 he started the course Small Animal Computed Tomography by ESAVS
His interest areas are Imagiology, ophthalmology and surgery.

Outside his professional life he has a passion for sports, more specifically bodyboard, football and crossfit

Ana Rita Gomes, DVM

Veterinarian

She finished her Master’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine in ICBAS in Oporto in 2016, doing her curricular internship in Hospital Veterinario Nacho Menes in Asturias and in the Policlínica de Aveiro.

She has worked has a Veterinarian since 2016 in the Hospital Veterinário de Aveiro and the Imaging Center – Center Area since July 2019

She has an interest in neurology and internal medicine and since then has gone to national and international course in the neurology area.
